March Skies in Color

It’s the last week of winter and the sky put on quite a show for us here in the Pacific Northwest. Earlier this week I caught this sunrise. Last night I enjoyed a different color palette with this sunset. Both were wonderful. ~ Susanne

I’d Rather be in a Garden.. with Lavender

Life began in a garden and there’s no place I’d rather be. In my garden you’ll always find herbs including my favorite, lavender. If I don’t get my fill  there, I head to Sequim in July, for one of the largest lavender festivals in… Continue Reading “I’d Rather be in a Garden.. with Lavender”

A Visit to Point Defiance on a March Summer Day

We looked for someplace new to enjoy the warmest day of the year to date – temperatures in the mid 70’s and it’s still winter!  We didn’t have to look far;  Point Defiance Park just 30 miles south in Tacoma, fit the bill. At… Continue Reading “A Visit to Point Defiance on a March Summer Day”

Winter Walk at Coulon Park

It hardly seems fair to call it a winter day, not with temperatures in the 50’s and the sky as blue as the lake below. And though the calendar does indeed say it’s winter I put on my lighter jacket and we headed to… Continue Reading “Winter Walk at Coulon Park”

Discovering Chambers Bay

Chambers Bay brings to mind the US Open Golf Tournament – at least to us locally – which was played there in 2015.  I’m not much of a golfer but my husband is so we watched the TV coverage of the event.  I remember… Continue Reading “Discovering Chambers Bay”

March comes in on a Whisper

There’s no lion today;  March has come to the Pacific Northwest with barely a whisper and blue skies.  We take advantage of the milder temperatures with a walk on the Cedar River Trail. We see bursts of color in the trees and shrubs… As… Continue Reading “March comes in on a Whisper”

Shadow Lake Bog: Out of this World

Earlier this winter we visited the nearby Shadow Lake Nature Preserve and its ancient sphagnum moss peat bog where it seemed that creatures might emerge from the swamp and prehistoric birds could soar overhead. And so for this week’s photo challenge I bring you… Continue Reading “Shadow Lake Bog: Out of this World”

Sunny and Blue at Seward Park

After a snowy weekend we enjoyed the crisp and cold but sunny weather yesterday;  a perfect time to bundle up and walk through Seattle’s Seward Park on Lake Washington.   We started out under brilliant blue skies, with this view of Mt. Rainier partially… Continue Reading “Sunny and Blue at Seward Park”

A Week of Winter Gardening

Cold – wind – rain – snow – sunshine –  we saw everything this week.  But when the rain stopped I headed outside to tend to the garden. It’s amazing what you can accomplish in a short amount of time;  time that is therapeutic… Continue Reading “A Week of Winter Gardening”

Road Trip to the Columbia River Gorge

We were promised two days of sunshine earlier this week, and so to celebrate we drove south for a night at the Columbia River Gorge. Our plan was to take in the waterfalls on the Oregon side; then spend the night at Skamania Lodge… Continue Reading “Road Trip to the Columbia River Gorge”
