Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
Earlier this winter we visited the nearby Shadow Lake Nature Preserve and its ancient sphagnum moss peat bog where it seemed that creatures might emerge from the swamp and prehistoric birds could soar overhead.
And so for this week’s photo challenge I bring you the bog at Shadow Lake Preserve. Ā It was out of this world.
Beautiful shots!
thank you so much! š
Def looks like it was š Lovely pics.
thank you! š
Nice to see an ancient bog, Susanne. My first wife was a University professor, and her speciality was sphagnum moss!
Best wishes, Pete.
Interesting! You probably know more about it than I do! This is 10 minutes from my house, but it was the first time we had visited. I hadn’t even realized there was a bog there. š
She used to study it by the square foot.
I never got involved. š
Gorgeous, Susanne! I really love places like this, so green and mysterious!
Thank you! I felt like I entered into a dark and murky underworld!
I can imagine the feel of the moss while enjoying your photos.
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures. š

What a unique landscape and so close to home!
Yes thanks! Ten minutes away and we only visited it recently for the first time. Small but a very cool walk through the woods and the bog.
