Plants in “G” – “H” – and “I”
They were harder to come up with than I thought they’d be, but I found a few.
“G” is for Geranium, of the ‘garden variety’ sort. An annual, ubiquitous, and easy to please.
I planted some in my flower box this year and love the colors. It doesn’t ask for much.
For “H” I would love to show you Honeysuckle. Years ago, I had a thriving vine, full of fragrant flowers but it got disturbed when a new fence was put in and has failed to produce any flowers since!
So, I will show you Hydrangeas, a new one I planted this year in a whiskey barrel. I’m hoping it survives.
I especially love them in the fall when they look a bit worn.
And how about the general category of Herbs? I have found them to be the easiest plants to grow in my garden for color, fragrance, and in some cases, culinary use. (And yes, you’ll see more Geraniums, in the left corner, Cranesbill.)
Finally we come to “I” for Ivy of the English Variety. To call it a vigorous climber is an understatement, but honestly it has served me well. It fills up a shady corner on our lot and was there when we bought our house. It’s now considered a noxious weed by Washington State, and no longer available for sale.
Benji likes the shade and cover it provides him.
It used to adorn grand, old, brick buildings (think, ‘Ivy League’) but not anymore. Those I’ve seen shorn of the ivy (e.g. the Empress Hotel in Victoria) look naked to me without it.
Progress, I guess.

Spectacular views of your amazing garden, Susanne! I almost went with geranium (I could have used my ginkgo tree!). I’m glad you shared the Ivy; plants and trees are certainly welcome in the ABC challenge. Your hydrangea looks healthy and happy. I’m glad the birds and Benji enjoy their peaceful backyard.
Thanks so much, Terri! I struggled with “I” but figured Ivy works, and I have a lot of it! 😀 The herb garden was from my old house in Seattle. I have a lot of herbs in my current garden too but liked the old pictures for today’s post. 😄
I love that purple hydrangea – a stunning colour! And Benji looks very happy in the shade of the ivy 🙂

Lovely blooms, especially the hydrangea! 💜 Cute kitty among the ivy. 😀 We have an abundance of vines in our yard and I love the look. 🌿
