Still Thundering at Snoqualmie Falls
Yesterday, with temperatures in the nineties, on the last day of our heat wave, we headed to the hills for a look at Snoqualmie Falls. I was surprised at the amount of water still flowing, as it thundered while dropping 268 feet below.
Once down below, it settled quietly into the river.
“Snoqualmie is the English pronunciation of “sah-KOH-koh” or “Sdob-dwahibbluh,” a Salish word meaning moon. As a spiritual place, it gave birth to many legends. One tells of “S’Beow” (the beaver), who climbed into the sky to bring trees and fire down to earth. The Native Americans who roamed the valley were known as people of the moon.” Snoqualmiefalls.com
After our visit, we went to nearby Snoqualmie Casino for lunch. Even though we don’t gamble, you can’t beat the award-winning Falls Buffet!

Looks like a great spot to visit in a heatwave! Could you cool off in the spray from the water perhaps?
You can sometimes feel the mist from above when there’s a lot of water going over. And you can take a trail to the bottom (or drive there too) where there’s another observation deck where you can feel the spray. (You used to be able to get closer to the riverbank, but they’ve blocked access, probably for safety reasons. )
Impressive falls, and great photos of them. We had highs of 99F earlier today, and it was too much for us. Looking forward to getting back into the mid-70s next week.

This looks a lot like the falls in the opening of the original Twin Peaks TV series. Do you know if this is the same place?
Yes! Twin Peaks was filmed in the town of Snoqualmie so the falls must have made it into the show. I remember it was filmed here but never watched it. 😊

Looks amazing, I’ve never been there, even when my hubby and I lived in Seattle years ago but I think we missed out on something magical there in the mountain pass. We’re Southern beach babies who had rather be fishing too the Southeast is our forever home now. Enjoy!
Snoqualmie Falls is one of the state’s top attractions and I never get tired of visiting, especially since it’s only thirty minutes away! I loved the Southeast the few times I visited, but I love the PNW and can’t imagine living anywhere else! (Well, maybe except for the weather! 😉 🙂 Thanks for dropping by!
