Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
I didn’t mean to leave you hanging in Big Sur so I’m back to close out the road trip series with our last major stop in California – the Monterey Bay Aquarium – one of the top aquariums in the United States.
We were welcomed by Aqua Man and all manner of sea creatures, both great and small!
(Click on pictures in the gallery to enlarge them.)
All were wonderful but I enjoyed the jellies the most. The Moon Jelly and Crystal jelly are the first two in the gallery below, followed by the Bloodybelly Comb Jelly, Sea Nettle, and Purple-Striped Jelly. (Click on pictures in the gallery to enlarge them.)
Check out the link to the Aquarium for more on these marvelous creatures.
I was mesmerized by them and could have stayed and watched them all day. Instead, I took videos so you could watch them too.
Aren’t they mysterious? Why don’t see for yourself the next time you’re down in Monterey.

Very beautiful photos and videos, Susanne! Wow. ❤️
I’m so glad you enjoyed them! Thank you so much! 🙂
If I lived near there, I would definitely go.
Yes indeed, it’s a special place! 🙂
Aquariums are fascinating, I agree. It is a while since I visited the aquarium in our mega city here half way around the world. What we still remember is the stingrays ganging up on the divers who brought their food down to them. The divers each carried two buckets of food, and put one down to share out the food from the other bucket. The stingrays tipped over the buckets down on the “ground” and helped themselves to the contents.
That must have been fun to see! Thanks for sharing the story!
We were blown away by how vast and colorful the Aquarium is – so many exhibit, so much to see and gape at!
Yes, it’s really a great aquarium! I’m not even sure I saw it all!
Aww I love Monterey! It was fun to see your photos of the aquarium! 🐟🐠🐡
Thank you! We really enjoyed it!
What a wonderful tour and photos of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Susanne! I can’t believe I’ve never been there either! 😦 I’ve heard excellent things about it and it sure is great that we can all move about the planet these days!
Thanks, Terri. I’m glad you enjoyed it! I figured you must have been multiple times since you weren’t that far away! 🙂 (Though the traffic getting out of the Bay area was pretty dreadful, so I understand that part.) We loved it and would definitely visit again. Seattle’s Aquarium has gotten better over the years, but I like the one in Monterey Bay the best. 🙂
I still need to get over to the west side 🤣
Sounds like a good plan!! Then you can face our traffic instead! 😄
That’s a very impressive aquarium, and I enjoyed the jellyfish videos too.
Best wishes, Pete.
Thanks, Pete. I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊🐟
Wow, those jelly fish are amazing! Never seen anything like that.
Aren’t they cool? I hadn’t seen all those varieties before either!
Did they have any octopuses? Seattle’s aquarium has one but it seemed so sad and bored, I could hardly bear to watch her, fascinating as she was. Thanks for attracting me to your site!
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂 Yes, they have octopus in the Monterey Aquarium, but I didn’t stop to see them. I live in the Seattle area and visited the aquarium here a couple years ago, too. On one hand I enjoyed watching the octopus but like you, felt bad seeing it confined.
A ritzy place where my friends live. I will visit soon. Thank your charming reminder. 💦
Hope you enjoy your visit! 😊
