Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
Today I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when a post came up from the Washington Trails Association.
“Hey, wait a minute,” I said. “That’s my picture!”
Indeed, it was! I had submitted it a while ago to one of their photo contests and forgotten all about it. I never heard back so knew I didn’t ‘win.’
So I was completely surprised when “my” picture showed up in one of their stories. (Must have been in the fine print. I don’t mind; it was fully accredited to me.)
It was taken on a rainy day hike at Federation Forest State Park, and as usual, Bob was my companion on the trail. (“Are you sure that’s me?” he asked. “Yes dear. It’s you.”)
Here’s the link to the story. You don’t need to wade through it, just check out the picture! π

A nice surprise. Beats finding that someone stole one of your pictures.
Exactly! Since it’s a non-profit I’m happy to support them. And it must have been in the fine print that they could use picture.
How utterly uberly cool. Congratulations! What a fun discovery.
Thanks so much! It was a huge surprise, and I was quite pleased.
A wonderful photo! So glad it has a wider audience!!
Thanks so much! π
That’s cool! Nice that they credited you!
Thanks, John. I was so surprised at first but I must have given permission to use it even though I wasn’t a contest winner. They’re a non-profit so it’s a good cause. And I’m happy they gave me credit. π
As Roadtirement said, I thought right away that your photo had been stolen. Congratulations, lovely photo!
That’s what I thought at first!! But then I remembered I submitted the photo to them as part of a contest. I’m happy they gave me credit for it.
That’s great Susanne. It’s so easy to steal photos and remove the watermark…
That’s what I’ve heard. I suppose it’s done often and you never even know. Since I follow the Washington Trails Association I saw it and remembered the contest.
I always add a simple watermark to my images, but the truth is that they are incredibly simple to remove…
What a treat! Beautiful work!
Thanks so much! ππ
Well of course!
ThatΒ΄s so cool. A great picture too.
Thank you! A great surprise!
It’s a great photo!
Thanks so much! It was such a surprise to see it on the Washington Trails site!
Great news, Susanne. To get full credit for a photo used that way is exceptional and encouraging.
Best wishes, Pete.
Thanks, Pete. At first I couldn’t figure out how they’d used my picture! But then I remembered submitting it for a photo contest, and even though I didn’t win, I was pleased they opted to use it on their site. π
This is extremely cool!! Good thing they werenβt trying to make money off of your photo, though. I thought that was cute about Bob asking if you were sure that was him. π
At first I was puzzled. But then I remembered submitting it to them for a photo contest and must have authorized use. Next time I’ll read the fine print! π But still I was pleased to have it on the site and properly given credit. π I recognized the picture instantly and had to laugh when Bob wondered!
I know, itβs like βWho else would it be?β π
I think he was surprised I would remember the picture at all. But a photographer always remembers!
I love that one of your photos is out in the world like that. Here’s to that happening many more times!
Thanks so much! After I got over the shock of seeing it on their site, I was quite pleased! I went back and looked at the contest rules and they do indeed say they will use them on their blog. I was so surprised because the contest runs every year and I submitted this picture a couple years ago.
But I hope you were pleased to see how even then you were taking stellar photos.
So kind. Thank you!
That’s totally cool, Susanne! Congrats and what a great memory you have!
Thanks so much, Terri! I was totally surprised to see that picture and recognized it instantly! Even though I submitted it a couple years ago! And WTA is a great source of information for hikes in Washington! π
I’m now a member! What a great resource foe hiking trails!
Yes, especially helpful for a transplant to Washington! π
I just checked out the website! The photo is beautiful on that page and now I’m following WTA, too!
Great! π
Love that pop of color with the umbrella!
Thanks!
Very nice surprise, cool.
Thank you!
