Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
We had a reprieve from the rain yesterday so we went south to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma.
The Jellies were my favorites.
Especially the Sea Nettles.
Mesmerizing, don’t you think?
I could watch them all day.

I could sit and stare at jellyfish all day long. I so adore your photos. π π Yes, indeed they are mesmerizing ;D
Thanks so much! They’re always my favorites in any aquarium! π π
Mine too. π
One of the greatest aspects of aquariums like this is how they have highlighted the majesty of the jellyfish with huge spaces for them and perfect lighting to capture them as well!
So true! The jellyfish are always my favorite in any aquarium!
So amazing and beautiful, Susanne! Life down there is so different from us. β€οΈ
Yes indeed! Thank you. π

Nice until you get stung by one. Ouch. They hurt.
So I heard! But thankfully I’ve never seen one in the wild.
I was in the Navy on the gulf coast, and really got stung once or maybe even twice. They really hurt. So donβt go swimming with the jellyfish. Just watch them in the aquarium where theyβre nice and removed.
Sounds like a good plan.
They are fascinating. My favourites are Octopus and Squid. I like the way they change colour.
Best wishes, Pete.
Thanks, Pete. I love octopus, too!
I’m with you – I could watch the jellyfish all day long and not get bored!! The movies were beautuful!
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed them. π
Great photos Susanne. Sea Nettles is a good name for jellyfish! I like seeing them in the water. The trick is not to run into them.
Thanks, Graham. I’ve only seen the more common moon jellyfish in Puget Sound but haven’t bumped into them while in the water. I love watching the Sea Nettles in the aquarium, but heard their sting is quite painful.
Mesmerising is definitely the word! But your still images are beautiful too π
Thanks so much, Sarah. π
When my sister and I visited the San Juan Islands, years ago, the water was teeming with reddish brown ones of all sizes. We were not tempted to molest them, knowing their reputation for self defense, but we enjoyed watching them. That was pre-cell phone so we didn’t get photos like we would today. Your photos are enough to rekindle my wanderlust.
Wonderful memories! I have mostly seen moon jellies in Puget Sound, usually while looking down from a dock or boat. I don’t recall seeing any of the more exotic looking ones in the wild.
