Summoned by the Hummingbirds

It’s been a cold and rainy spring, so I haven’t been out in the garden much, nor paying enough attention to the hummingbirds. They let me know it.

I was recently summoned from my office on the third floor of our house. I’d let the feeders run dry and a hummer came and hovered in front of the window to let me know. This was a first. My office is on the third level of our house and faces the front yard; the feeders are in the backyard against the fence. The smart little bird knew where to find me.

It took me an hour or so to make fresh nectar and refill the feeders. But the hummers were forgiving and soon back feeding.

Even willing to pose for me.

I do love those sweet little birds!

  1. I think it’s wonderful that they come to ask you to refill the feeders. They are more intelligent than they are given credit for! πŸ™‚
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Really so, Pete! I was quite amazed when they visited me far away from the location of the feeders, and I hustled to get them refilled. πŸ™‚

  2. Hummingbirds remind me of my Mom, she had feeders everywhere and hired someone to keep them full when she traveled. Love all the pics and your kindness to these sweet creatures Susanne. Hugs, C

    • Thanks so much! Fortunately they live in my yard, and stay fairly still at the feeder. And my camera has a long zoom so it works well!

  3. They’re beautiful – well worth the task of keeping the feeders full if they reward you with these images πŸ™‚

    • Yes they are beautiful and so charming. I do my best to keep the feeders full but the weather’s been so crummy I fell behind on the job!

  4. So special Susanne! Smarty pants hummers! I can’t even keep one feeder replenished.

    • Yes, I love having them in my yard, and even more that they come looking for me!! 😊 Maybe you’ll have visitors this summer!

  5. Do they hold still like that or is it because of your super camera that you can capture them still?
