Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
Yes, indeed.
It’s that rainiest of months in the Great Northwest and leaves are on the ground, the mushrooms are, too.

I like mushrooms but I don’t pick my own, though they’re everywhere in Seattle area forests and parks.
But I have gone mushroom hunting over the years with my mom, who is an expert. When we’d visit her place on Hood Canal, she’d take us deep into the forest, point out the good ones and show us how to pick them – with a sharp knife, never pulling from the ground. The biggest prizes were the Chanterelles. I’d probably still recognize those.
As far as the ones above, I can’t tell one from another. I’ll leave it to the experts.

Pictures were taken in my yard this morning while the sky was gray and rain was still falling; I’m sharing them with Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge, #Brown.

Life Cycles. I love the beautiful colour pallet, Susanne! Stay dry. We’ve had two days of much needed rain way down here in the Mojave Desert.
Hard to stay dry here in November, but I’ll do what I can! 😀
I’m sure you will do well haha! 🤣☺️
Great shots! xx
Thank you! 😊
cheers to these awesome fall photos- and the mushroom moods!
Thank you so much! ☺️
Rain, rain, rain, but it sure makes for beautiful photography, Susanne! I love the mushrooms and a couple where a leaf sat on top of one! Very nice!
Another gray day here, brown earth, leaves all gone. I’m ready for snow!
Thanks, Terri! I do get weary of the rain, unfortunately I don’t expect much relief till Spring! I like a little sprinkling of snow in winter but we dont get as much as you do on your side of the state!
I have no idea which mushrooms are which.
I know what you mean! ☺️
Nothing like a bit of rain to spring the mushrooms free. You have a good collection there.
Yes, I’ve got quite a crop growing in my yard! 😀
We also have lots of mushrooms growing around Beetley. Like you, I never risk picking them, though I do know the most dangerous one to avoid, the Fly Agaric with its bright red cap with white spots. https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees-woods-and-wildlife/fungi-and-lichens/fly-agaric/
Best wishes, Pete.
My yard is full of mushrooms this time of year. But I don’t have any as pretty in red as the Fly Agaric. I’ll be on the lookout. 😊
They are often found in dark, damp woodland, and easy to spot because of the red cap. There are lots of them in Beetley.
The rain adds a lot of richness to the shades of brown 🙂 I liked the quote in the title too, and with that much rain I would definitely be ‘California dreaming’!
Thanks, Sarah. ☺️ The leaves are brown, so are the mushrooms, and the sky is gray, too! (I love that song!)
Me too 😀
