Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
It’s been a long winter and rainy spring and the cats are getting restless. Though Tiger sleeps the day away Benji demands more action so I thought it was time for a new toy. Not that he doesn’t have 47 others strewn about the house – he does. But he prefers the interactive ones and I misplaced the measuring tape he’d grown to love.
Enter the new mouse on a stick. I keep it in the drawer next to the chair in my office and first thing every morning he comes in ready to play.
“Benji not now,” I say, “I’m trying to drink my coffee,” but who can resist those eyes.
So I open the drawer while he waits patiently as I extract his favorite toy.
I dangle it overhead and he’s all over it – twisting and jumping – attacking till he brings it down with his sharp claws;
Only loosening his grip when he’s ready for more.
We both are entertained.

When I had a cat I got the same reaction from playing with her using a feather-duster. Worked every time! π
Best wishes, Pete.
It’s amazing how much they love to chase and play with whatever you dangle in front of them! π
You got the moves Benji!
Thanks! I do what I can to keep up my hunting skills! π
Wow Benji sure has a lot of energy! It is funny what they like to play with though. π»
He really does! And he ADORES this new toy! After he catches it he carries it around like prey, then brings it back for more! π
Well, this theme was right up your alley! Benji looks like he gets plenty of exercise and has a good time doing so.
Thanks Graham. I’ve been wanting to share about Benji and his new toy so it worked out great! π
What a beautiful boy. π
Thank you so much! π π
Benji’s a live wire! And so handsome!
Aw thank you so much! He truly is both a live wire and handsome! π π
So nice to meet Benji, he is adorable. That toy looks quite popular. I just bought Moji and Nutter Butter two shiny mouse/balls (OK – yawn), a fabric-covered coil (NR), and a long fabric cylinder that rustles like paper or plastic (NR) They would rather stare out the front door for hours at the live lizards teasing them on the porch. I think you are much better at playing with Benji. He does look very persuasive. π Thanks for joining in Sunday Stills with me, Susanne. π
Thanks so much for your comment and hosting Sunday Stills! My cats are the indoor-outdoor variety so during our long cold and rainy winter they go a bit stir crazy! Benji’s the one with all the energy so I thought I should help him out with a new toy. He loves it yes, but I’ve created a new problem for myself!! ππ» When the weather’s better he’ll be much happier chasing moles in the backyard!
Nutter Butter would much prefer to chase moles, gophers, lizards, etc. But Moji is a diva and would rather be inside.
What a sweet kitty! Visiting from Sunday Stills
Thanks so much for dropping by! π»π»
Gosh, Benji is having such fun with this! Great photos of him, I love him β€
Thanks so much! Benji’s quite a character. I’m so glad you enjoyed the pictures! π
Aww- I love measuring tapes too! The Can Opener got a 4 pack for me-(that way I get 3 to play with and she gets one for sewing-(because Iβm a very generous cat)!
Nice of you to share!
I think Sue may have hid mine but then felt bad and got me an even better toy!! π ~ Benji
Mwahaha!! Very smart!
My cat wears me out playing, especially with that dang laser light!
I forgot about the laser light! I’ve never tried that with Benji. πΊ
My cat goes nuts, I finally had to stop playing with her using that because she just begged for it all the time!
I’m having to put Benji’s toy away after a short playtime as he doesn’t want to stop either!
What great action shots! Talk about a win-win!
Thanks so much! Benji brightens my day with his antics! π»
He brightens our day too!
Awwww! Thank you! π π
Hadn’t noticed you were trademarking your photos. Good move after my experience seeing how easily people copy others’.
I took a class in Lightroom earlier this year and subscribed to the software. I didn’t realize how much I would love it, and since a watermark is so easy to apply, I went ahead with it. Makes the picture look better don’t you think? π
Well less easy to copy for sure.
So typical cat. Great pics.
Thanks! π»
