It’s Gotta be Licorice

If it’s on the menu, it’s my first choice, much to my husband’s chagrin.

It turns my lips, tongue and teeth not black exactly, but a strange purple or green.

‘You can walk ahead of me, dear, if it bothers you.’

It’s always on the menu at Scoopers in Long Beach, and best enjoyed watching the waves roll in.

  1. I’m a fan too! I used to be able to score a fist full of black jelly beans for a single red one in trades with my sisters!! My favorite ice cream is Rum Raisin but there isn’t anywhere around here that has it! The last time I was able to treat myself was in Morgantown, WV. Second place is licorice or anise! I’m disappointed that you didn’t post a photo of the tongue!!

    • Black jelly beans are the best! I’ve never tried Rum Raisin, but it sounds interesting! My second choice is usually some kind of salted caramel or cheesecake flavor. And sorry, no picture of my tongue, maybe next time! 😉 🙂

    • It’s an intense flavor and people either love it or hate it! Bob would never even try it, much preferring to make fun of what it does to my mouth! 😉 🙂

  2. I’ve never heard of licorice ice cream. It’s tempting to drive to Long Beach to get some, but I suspect you don’t mean Long Beach, CA.

    • Really, never heard of it? Who knew? 🙂 I’ve been enjoying it for as long as I can remember, usually in a beach town, such as Long Beach, Washington! 🙂

  3. I’m impressed. Elevated Ice Cream in Port Townsend used to have licorice ice cream as one of their rotating flavors, but it was not black like this. It was white, but tasted great, and no stained teeth!

    • I’ve always loved licorice ice cream and eaten it regardless how ridiculous it looks! But I’m even more happy with the white version, in fact I had white licorice ice cream in Port Townsend on our last visit a couple weeks ago!

  4. Not for me, I’m afraid. I quite like the flavour, but not the colour. I rarely eat ice cream these days, but given a wide choice of flavours, I always choose pistachio.

    Best wishes, Pete.
