National Take a Hike Day

November 17th – who knew?

I suppose that means I should be out hiking, but instead I thought I’d share pictures from a few hikes I went on this year in Washington State, my home.

Early this spring we visited the northwest corner of Mt. Rainier National Park, the Carbon River Valley, which is a temperate rainforest (did you know?) We took the Rainforest Loop Trail, basking in nature’s beauty

and watching our step. After a wild winter, part of the trail was upended by wind and falling trees, but all was peace and quiet while we were there.

Later in the summer we hiked the trail at Deception Falls on Stevens Pass, a favorite stop on our way to Wenatchee.

No need to worry about upended trees here as Bob kept them all upright!

Closer to home, we enjoyed hiking the many trails in Lincoln Park in West Seattle,

through an urban forest with trees of all sizes and colors,

including a grove of Redwoods.

What more could you ask for?

Okay, how about a troll?

This one met us at the bottom of the trail.

And since there are so many wonderful shades of brown in this post, I’m sharing with Sunday Stills, #Brown.

  1. Wow, I looove the beautiful tall trees and forests! The sunbeam photo is beautiful! ❤️😎

  2. Yes! That sunbeam pic is amazing, and the shot of Bob holding up the tree, is great! The browns and greens of the forests and trails are so restful and peaceful, Susanne.

Bummer to miss national take a hike day today, but we had snow last night, which melted. Now it’s cold, rainy and windy. No hiking today. I love that troll! What a surprise to see the next shot of how big it is! You always share places in WA we want to visit!

    • Thanks so much, Terri! It was rainy and cold here too most of the day, and when Bob suggested we go for a hike (yes, really!) I politely declined. Today, pictures will have to do! Enjoy your slowed schedule, you deserve it! 🙂

      • “Politely declined,” love it, Susanne! It will be nice to slow down a bit. Dec 1st is “traditions,” then metallic color challenge, then year in review. Those alone, even every two weeks, will keep me busy!

  3. Some classic-looking Northwest hikes there. Good work keeping that tree upright. Don’t forget to take him a sandwich and flask of coffee now and again!

  4. A tree-hugger’s delight! So many beautiful ones and all shades of green as well as brown. Any of these hikes would make me happy 🙂

  5. Great to see the Redwoods and the Troll sculptures. Lovely photos of your hiking, Susanne.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  6. Thanks for taking us on a lovely hike. I enjoyed seeing all that lush vegetation. Such a contrast to my arid landscape in AZ.

  7. Suzanne, I love your hike! It reminds me of Glendoveer Golf Course path in Portland that my brother walks almost daily. I love the picture of your husband holding up the tree. The other one that is so unusual is the streaming sunlight. It’s like finding the pot at the end of the rainbow! 🙂 xxx
