Cities Come in All Sizes

For this week’s Sunday Stills Challenge #Urban I thought I’d share a few of my favorite cities starting with the largest.

London

“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”

– Samuel Johnson

Surprisingly, London was never at the top of my list of travel destinations, but when the opportunity came, I finally went to one of the world’s most visited cities and fell in love with it. I’ve been there twice but only scratched the surface so I hope there’s another trip in my future.

Chicago

Chicago never made my list either, so its beauty surprised me as well! I’ve been many times now and whenever I visit, I’m impressed all over again with the city of big shoulders, rising out of nowhere on Lake Michigan in the Midwest.

Seattle

This one didn’t need to be on my list – I didn’t have a choice – I was born and raised here! You might call it a smaller, large city, the largest in Washington state and the Pacific Northwest. I love the cityscapes including the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and Sculpture Park. But mainly I love the amazing scenery surrounding it, with water and mountains everywhere. (Keeping it real showing you blue skies and plenty of gray as well.)

Bellingham

Another favorite of mine is the city of Bellingham, north of Seattle and close to the Canadian border. I’d never been before I moved there to attend Western Washington University. It has all that Seattle has to offer in a pint-sized form. I used to walk everywhere back in the day, from home to the campus, and downtown to work. And if I needed to take the bus, a dime would do it!

I have many other favorite cities in all different sizes, but time will fail if I include them all! Even so, here’s two more. Can you guess what they are? Shouldn’t be too difficult.

I think I got carried away. So that’s all for now.

  1. So many lovely photos in this post, Suzanne! I’ve never been to Washington State, the cities look very nice. I would LOVE to visit London and the entire UK someday. Those bangers and beans look so good, a typical British meal. Yum! Have a dandy weekend. 😊

  3. You are so lucky to have been to visit these wonderful cities, Susanne! London is on my bucket list and even Seattle, LOL, although I visited Seattle when I was nine 🙂 Cities in the Northwest are framed by such beauty as you so well captured! Bellingham looks fab too–a small urban center sounds delightful. Enjoy your Easter holiday, my friend!

    • Thank you so much Terri, for your lovely comment! 🙂 I was thrilled to see London, never expecting to enjoy it that much. And you probably know how I love Seattle. 🫠 Enjoy your holiday weekend, too!

  4. Very nice, Susanne. Never been to Chicago, but the rest I know. I lived in Bellingham for a couple of years and liked it a lot, especially its location. Victoria is also a favorite place. Used to go there to play music amongst other things!

    • Thanks, Graham. I loved living in Bellingham during my college years. And I never get tired of visiting Victoria. Fun to hear you’re a musician! What and where did you play?

      • Not a musician any more, but I used to play in a marimba band for several years. Had a lot of fun too.

  5. I’m glad you got carried away as I enjoyed seeing all your urban shots! Of course it was especially fun to see my own city of London feature – if ever you do make that third visit in the future I’d love to meet up and show you some favourite spots 🙂 I loved seeing Seattle too, as I really liked the city when we visited a few years ago. Your sunset shot is gorgeous!

    • Thank you, Sarah! I really enjoyed London and hope I get back there again. If so, I’ll take you up on your offer! And I couldn’t help but showcase my hometown of Seattle. 😊

  6. I want to go to London and Edinburgh… I’ve been to Seattle (the capitol of geocaching) and I enjoyed it except for the parking ticket!! Parking in the city proper was impossible!

    • I didn’t know Seattle was the capital of geocaching but I do understand the challenges of parking! I hope to see Edinburgh someday too.

  7. Ah, Tower Bridge. I was born and brought up not far from the south side of that bridge, and it is still my favourite bridge in the whole world. The Anchor in Bankside is popular with tourists, but was also local to where I lived from 1985-1997. I could walk there along the riverbank and enjoy a drink as I watched the world go by.

    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Thanks, Pete. We stayed in that area and really enjoyed walking everywhere along the river. I understand why it means so much to you and the bridge is beautiful!

  8. I love these. I’m way late commenting but am catching up before I start on Yesterdays posts. Yikes. I would love to visit London. I was born in England because my dad was in the air force and stationed there for a bit.
