Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
That’s what a group of hummingbirds is called. I rarely see them in groups, though I occasionally see a couple sparring for rights over the feeder.
So last month during our record deep-freeze, 14 degrees overnight, I added an extra one to a new location, to give the hummers more options where to eat. They appreciated it. And lucky for me, I can see this spot from my office and take pictures without bothering them through the window.

Not only do I get to watch them drink

I get to watch them perch on the branches nearby in between feeding.

No wonder they’re called a charm of hummingbirds.

No wonder they are called a charm is right, Susanne! Wow, stunning shots! His colors are so vivid. My former Sacramento home had a feeder right out my office window too, so I could capture great shots like yours with my Lumix! I miss seeing them that closely. You are lucky to see them all year round where you are!
Thanks so much, Terri. This new location is great for watching them! And I never cease to be charmed by them. 🙂
Very charming indeed, Susanne! Your new addition gives me a good reason to pick up one more feeder to place on my unused table in the backyard near my bedroom door. The 200mm Nikkor would easily capture them in detail from that distance. ❤️😊
Thanks, John! Sounds like a good idea!
You’re welcome!
They are so beautiful!
Yes, they truly are! 😍
Beautiful. We won’t have any until mid May.
Thank you. Our sweet Anna’s are here year-round.

They’re so beautiful – what a treat it must be to be able to watch them from the comfort of your own home!
Thank you. It sure beats hiding outside in the cold!
I never tire of seeing your hummingbird photos, Susanne. Lovely!
Best wishes, Pete.
