A Trip to the Beach without Benji

We just returned from a few days at the ocean, perfectly timing our visit to escape the heat wave in Seattle. Honestly, we got lucky, it was twenty degrees cooler at Long Beach.

We had a great time. Bicycling. Hiking. Enjoying the sights.

And once again, Benji was not invited.

Which reminded me of this.

********

“Watcha doin’, Benji?”

“Getting ready for the big trip, Sue.”

“What trip is that, Benji?”

“Wherever it is your going.  I’d like to come along if you don’t mind.”

“But you hate riding in the car.Β  Have you forgotten? I think you’ll be much happier at home. And I’ll bring you back a present, I promise.”

A few days later I did.

He was enthralled.

Hope to share more photos from Long Beach soon.

  1. Seems like a wonderful trip! It’s important to have some quality time without our furry friends occasionally. Glad you enjoyed the cooler weather and made the most of your activities!

  2. Talking cats, and books. What could possibly be better! Have you or Benji read “The Cat Who Saved Books” – if not, consider reading it together? There is a nice review on Goodreads.

  3. Benji is too cute – I’d take him along just to back out of the driveway and around the block so he’d realize he really didn’t want to go too….

  4. Poor Benji, he can’t win – if he went with you he’d hate the drive but he doesn’t like being left at home either! But seriously, it sounds like you had a lovely break by the coast, the best place to be in a heatwave for sure πŸ™‚

    • He’s definitely not a traveling cat. He just doesn’t want us to go. But yes, we had a great time! We had perfect weather in the low seventies, while it was in the mid-nineties in Seattle.

  5. I doubt Benji would have enjoyed the beach. Ollie prefers grass and trees, although we do take him with us. He loves to be in the car, and never gets inside our suitcases. πŸ™‚
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • It must be fun to take Ollie out and about. 😺 Benji wouldn’t like it. He just doesn’t want us to go and knows he’s being left behind.

      • I’m sure he would prefer to stay in Beetley, but when he knows he is coming with us in the car, he still gets incredibly excited, every time. πŸ™‚
