Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
I had other plans today but was tired and decided to do some backyard birding instead. I could hear the wrens chatter so I pulled up a chair and positioned myself for a good look at the birdhouses on the garden shed.

It wasn’t long before I saw the mama return to the rooftop with a large bug.

I watched her drop to the birdhouse below,

and feed it to her youngsters.

“More, more,” was the cry and she obliged, returning again and again.

Bugs! It’s what’s for lunch at the Wren’s house! 🙂

We only have one box on one oak tree, and the blue tits use it every Spring. Now I want to add more, to cater for other birds.
Lovely photos, Susanne.
Best wishes, Pete.
Thanks so much Pete. I have never seen so much activity in the bird boxes as I have this year with the wrens! It’s so fun to watch! 🙂
Sounds delicious. 😬
They sure seem to like them! Some folks do too, but not me! 😉
Yeah, I’ve seen people eaticg chocolate-covered bugs – why?
Indeed, why? Spare me the bugs and give me the chocolate! 🙂
I love chocolate but don’t eat it now because of diabetes…

Thank you for sharing these wonderful images, of natural life. Isnt it wonderful to see how life is going on in nature, far away from the problems humans have? Best wishes, Michael
Yes indeed! Thank you so much for your comment and the reblog! 🙂
Really terrific shots!
Thanks so much John! I sat and watched the Wrens have lunch for over an hour, and was happy to catch the action! 🙂
Reminds me of Malibu last week, watching the waves and trying to capture the wet and wild nature of them for hours!
It’s so relaxing to take time for that!
Oh wow that is so cool that you got to see that, much less photograph it! 😀
I was thrilled! I guess it was good I didn’t have the energy to do much else except sit in the backyard and watch the birds! 😄
I saw this post and chuckled as “bugs” caught my eye, Susanne! Great shots of mama bird feeding her babies! This Sunday Stills’ theme is bugs! You’re all set, LOL!
Oh! Good to know!! I’ll have to get more bugs lined up for my next post for Sunday Stills!! 😄
They are so cute! You’re so lucky to have them nesting in your birdhouses!
Thanks! I’m thrilled that they took up residence in the birdhouses!
This is so cute! And I love your little bird houses!
Thanks so much! My husband made the birdhouses and the wrens love them! 🙂
Stunning photos!
Thank you so much!! I was happy to catch the wrens at feeding time! 😊
this is so amazing. How fabulous just to be able to sit and watch. Loving this Tree Square and additional birding photographs. Such a treat – wish I was sitting there with you!
Thank you so much! It was a special time watching the mama wren hunt and feed her young!

Susanne, what a great set-up for photography. Did you also supply the bugs? I’d be surprised if they don’t sell them in pet stores. Your bugs look nice and fresh, probably in the cold-foods section, or maybe like lobster, they keep them alive until you buy them and take them home. 🙂
Ha! 😁 Those are juicy looking bugs aren’t they? I was so lucky to catch the wren not only hunting but returning with that creepy crawler in his mouth! I guess it paid off setting up shop in the backyard for a while! 😊
Fabulous pictures, Susanne. Very fun. 🙂
