Lunar Eclipse 2019

I have always enjoyed watching the night sky and relish the opportunity to see an eclipse.  I wasn’t sure the weather would cooperate but the sky was mostly clear so I went outside to watch the event. I was joined by two cats who wondered why I was out there alone in the dark,  and after freezing for more than an hour and fiddling around with my camera settings, this was the best I could do.

Starting around 7:30 pm, a full bright moon peaked through the trees,

and as it rose higher in the sky, was increasingly whittled away by earth’s shadow

until it finally turned a lovely orange.

That is all.

  1. I think you did really well, Susanne. I have never got such clear shots of the moon.
Was this with your RX 10 at the maximum zoom? Well done! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. We had an incredible view of it, the sky was flawlessly clear and so many stars were out because of this…it was difficult to photograph but you did a great job!

    • Thanks John. We had a much better view than I expected. Often when these events are predicted we have rain or cloudy skies here But last night was clear and cold and I was happy to get a few good shots! 🙂

  3. Great pictures! I didn’t even try to take any, there was too much light pollution but I loved watching it even if I did freeze a bit.

    • Thank you so much! It was wonderful to see it from my backyard where everything was dark and clear, but yes so cold!! 🙂

  4. You got great pictures! Ours won’t be in focus, but we had fun watching even though it was cold.

  5. Beautiful shots! Thank you very much for sharing, as there was no eclipse happened at my area!

  6. Cool shots! I saw the ‘blood moon’ as well and it was a supermoon too. So creepy yet beautiful 🙂

  7. Nice photos. I’m glad you got to see the eclipse. The viewing was good here in Hawaii, but a tad warmer I suspect.

    • Thanks. 🙂 I was happy the sky was clear that night as the day was cloudy and rainy. But it was definitely a cold evening and I was outside watching for 1 – 2 hours. Still so worth it!

  8. I love your pics! They aren’t easy to take, I know. My cats did not join me (lucky you!) but the dogs watched from the porch window until I was too dull even for them to watch. Watching the moon rise is only for the patient. And warm. I was neither.

    • I was so happy to have clear skies to see the eclipse and tried my best to get a few good pictures. But it was really cold! Thanks so much for your comment! 😊
