WordPress reminded me…..

It’s been 9 years since I started this blog – April 22, 2016, to be exact!

Since then, it’s mostly been tales of these two – Tiger and Benji – along with my travels and gardens, et al.

It’s been a fun and challenging hobby, both from the angle of the software (changes daily without warning) and from developing content. And after nine years, I sometimes wonder: Do I have anything more to say? But if I bow out now – what happens to all my hard work??

It’s the losing of my stories, if I shut down my blog, that sometimes keep me going. Not a good reason so if you know of a way to download posts in a readable format, please let me know in a comment, should that day come.

In the meantime, I press on, much like Lewis and Clark did ages ago, and hope you’ll keep following for as long as I do. We appreciate it! 🙂

  1. I hope you keep your blog up and running, Susanne. I’ve thought about closing mine down too but people always encourage me to keep the blog going. Happy Wednesday!

    • Thanks so much, John. I suppose all of us who blog wonder when it might be time to pull the plug. For now, I plan to keep going, but still hope to find a way to save off some of the stories I’d like to keep.

  2. I’ve also thought about what would happen if I stopped writing on my blog. I’ve included a request in my “emergency instructions” to family members, to please keep paying the blog fee! If not, all Internet material goes into the Wayback Machine and can still be accessed but not everyone knows that!

    • I need to look into it more seriously, I think. I keep hoping there’s a way to selectively download and save off at least my favorite posts, if not all of them.

  3. For my Foster and Panda stories, I make a readable download by copying and pasting my photos and text onto PowerPoint slides, rearranging everything on the pages so it fits better, and saving them as a PDF. Then I can print them out and make them into the “books” for my school library. It would take forever to do a whole blog, but once you get the hang of it you can start with a post you’ve already done and “save as”, and it goes pretty fast. The reason I use PowerPoint is that I have an easier time manipulating the photos and text on a slide, but I suppose a person with more computer skills could use Word or something similar, also.

    • Thanks for the tip. 🙂 I’ve done copy and paste in the past into word, but it seemed so slow and painful, I was hoping for a tool that did the hard work for me! Probably just wishful thinking. I do remember another blogger mentioning a site that would put your blog into a book, but it was pretty pricey and I would only want to selectively save posts… Is PowerPoint free, or do you pay monthly for MS Office? I quit my paid subscription a while back. I may try it.

  4. Oh that’s a good question. I think there is a free version. Mine is included in the subscription I have. Isn’t that kind of a pain how they want a subscription instead of just letting you buy the program straight out?

    • Yes. I had a very old version (2007) that was on a CD that my new computer has a problem with! 😉 🙂 I may have to bite the bullet and subscribe again!

  5. Happy Blogoversary! I love reading about your kitties and your travels.

  6. Happy anniversary! I know of what you speak, and my blog is almost the same age as yours. I take long breaks and then suddenly I have something to say, so I say it! At least it’s harmless 😺

  7. If you are tired of blogging, there is no need to delete it. Just leave it there, and people will come across it randomly. I hope you don’t stop though, as I always enjoy your posts. This summer I will have been blogging for 13 years, and I would love to make it to 20.

    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Thanks so much, Pete. I’m not quite ready to call it quits, I probably just need a break now and then. And you’re right, I wouldn’t need to delete my blog when I’m done. I just wonder how my posts would look without photos. I assume the pictures would disappear when I stopped paying for the extra storage. Guess I’d find out!

And congratulations to you on 13! Definitely go for 20! You have a great blog with lots of variety! 😊
