Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
We’ve had a soggy start to spring, but my garden beds are in need of serious renovation. So despite the rain, I headed to the garden center yesterday and found water pooled in the parking lot, forming interesting designs,

including a giant cockroach! (Not to worry, just the reflection of a shopping cart.)

I bought an assortment of plants to replace the overgrown, woody ones, including catmint that didn’t come up this year. Not only do the cats love it, but it’s an attractive herb in the garden.
I also got catnip – a smaller, less attractive plant but more potent – and hoped I could get it into the ground before it was eaten.

The boys were happy to be outside while I worked, and I was happy to have them.

Today, I woke to sunshine and clear skies (hooray!) and went outside to survey yesterday’s handiwork.

Tiger came with me and found the catnip.

There’s still much to be done but I’ve learned the best way is a little at a time. Spring isn’t going anywhere.

Happy boys!! 😻😻
Yes, happy to be outside! And loving the new catnip!
Meeeow!!! ❤️😻
I’ve lost too many catnip plants to my ravening horde. 🙂
The catmint can withstand the onslaught but I’m not sure the catnip will!
It’s nice to be able to get out and play in the garden.
Yes indeed! There’s something so satisfying about digging in the dirt!
Sprint has finally sprung this week in our fair state, Susanne. I love that your cats hang out with you in the garden. Best wishes on an amazing garden this year. My winter bulbs are all sprouting, I’m so excited! This is Terri in case the post shows “anonymous.”
Thanks for the heads up! You are no longer anonymous, no thanks to WordPress! 😄 Yes, I’m happy that spring is here, and I’m expecting alternating days of rain and sunshine!
Nice for everyone to be able to get out and enjoy an afternoon growing things!
Yes indeed! Finally getting some garden time!
The kitties are in heaven, Suzanne. What an inviting place for them to enjoy.
Thank you! They do love being in the garden, especially with catmint and catnip! 🙂
They are so cute, and the garden is totally alluring. I’d like to hang out there!
When my cats were allowed outdoors decades ago (now it is too dangerous), I had to make a chicken wire cage for my catnip plant as the cats would destroy it. My large Maine coon would eat his fill then take an afternoon snooze on top of the cage!
I’m not hopeful that the catnip will survive! 🙂 The catmint should be fine.
We are still a couple months from seeing flowers… Catnip and catmint – will that entice the bobcat too??
I’ve always had catmint in my garden, just not catnip, which are small plants. Tiger and Benji are eating them, so I’m not sure there’ll be any left! I doubt the fragrance would carry far into the woods? I think the bobcat is more interested in small rodents, but we are still on watch.
That’s a relief! Both that the bobcat isn’t going to be interested and that Tiger and Benji are enjoying it!
Nothing like getting out in the garden again. I like your two watery shots from the garden center. Very typical for Washington!
Thanks, Graham. I thought the pooled rain looked interesting on the pavement. And we are in for much more rain this week.
Well, it is the Pacific Northwest!
Tiger and Benji will be happy to join you outside for a spot of gardening whenever they get the chance, I am sure 🙂
Yes indeed! They love hanging around me in the garden, and I feel being out there is safer for them, too!
Such a good idea to ‘look down’ and get the rain photos. The catnip is attracting interest!
Best wishes, Pete.
Thanks, Pete! I found the pooled water on the pavement intriguing. The catnip is definitely a big hit, and I also doubt it will survive!
Loved your choices for the prompt. Your garden space is wonderful. Even though you say it needs work, I drool because I’d love to have a garden space.
Aw, thank you so much! It always looks run down this time of year, but just a little work and replacing worn plants makes a big difference.
What a lovely garden! And kitties. ❤
Thanks so much!
The kitties are lovely!!!! And I love your veggie beds!!!!
Thanks so much!
