Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
Facebook has been reminding me all week that it was seven years ago, the last week of September, when we went on our very first cruise, and it was to the great state of Alaska!
So for Becky’s Challenge #SevenforSeptember I went back and squared some of my favorite photos from that cruise, starting with our departure from my hometown and favorite city, Seattle.

We sailed out of the Strait of Juan de Fuca as the sun was beginning to set, and honestly it was magical.

My favorite part of the ship was the Promenade Deck where I walked alone every morning, enjoying the fresh air,

and looking for any signs of this:

The highlight of our trip was sailing though Glacier Bay.

Even though it was rainy and overcast, we loved seeing the many glaciers and baby seals resting on ice floes.

I’m hoping to go back earlier in the season and see Glacier Bay on a clear day, to catch the mountain ranges surrounding the bay, just like in the pictures, here.

We have been to Alaska twice, both cruises and loved it both times.
Us too! First cruise on Holland America, second on Princess. Hoping to do it again!
Our first cruise was with Royal Caribbean and the second with Princess. Both great! And the sun shone on the day we were at the glacier.
Maybe I’ll look into Royal Caribbean for our next cruise!
Beautiful scenery! We are reluctant to do a cruise because of the crowds on a massive ship but I think you told me this was a more moderate size and the type of people who want this sort of adventure are not a “let’s party” group like some of the big boats…also, how else can you see this scenery?
Yes indeed, the scenery was amazing! I preferred the Holland America cruise (this one) because the ship was smaller, and still had a promenade deck. Our second cruise to Alaska was on Discovery Princess, newer and bigger, but there was no promenade deck, it was replaced by a track up top, which wasn’t the same. And Holland caters to an older crowd, so it was more relaxed.
Very beautiful photos, Susanne! I’ve never been to Alaska but it looks amazing. Perhaps too cold… š„¶
Maybe too cold for someone who enjoys 100 degree temps!
Right! It’s still over 100 degrees for the next week down here, Susanne. ššš»
ooh I would have liked the early morning strolls on the deck too – these are wonderful. What a trip
Yes, my favorite! Thanks, Becky. š
I remember you going on that cruise, and it’s good to see your photos again after 7 years. Such dramatic scenery!
Best wishes, Pete.
Thanks, Pete! The scenery was amazing!
Very beautiful scenery – Thanks for sharing.
It’s amazing how sharing such beautiful experiences is delightful.
Thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
Our trip to Alaska was amazing too~ I wouldn’t mind going again!
Me too! Hope to do another someday!
It was our first cruise and it couldn’t have been better! They said to expect rain but we were dry the whole time!
Lucky you! We’ve been on two cruises to Alaska so far, and had rain most of the time!
I love those glacier images in particular – awe-inspiring!
Thanks, Sarah! It was awesome indeed cruising among those glaciers!
