A Study in Green – the Quinault Rain Forest

The Hoh Rain Forest gets most of the press for its fabulous Trail of Mosses, but the Maple Glade Trail in the Quinault Rain Forest is every bit as beautiful and definitely less crowded. Off the beaten path, on the remote southwest edge of Olympic National Park, we had the trail to ourselves on a mild winter’s day and everything was dripping with green.

  1. That side of the peninsula is the mossy side for sure. You were lucky to have a day like that in January!

  2. How lovely! We visited the Hoh and to be honest didn’t find it too crowded (but I’d made sure we got there early!) But I wish I’d heard about this rainforest too – you could never have too much of these beautiful trees!

    • We love both of them but Quinault is less visited. Hoh gets the most crowded during the summer. Last year we thought we’d swing by when we were staying at Sol Duc, and encountered a long slow moving line to get in. So we moved on to the ocean instead. We usually try to visit in the shoulder season.

  3. I still am not used to the lack of underbrush in our forests here. While much of Portland wasn’t that lush, it was much greener than here.

  4. Oh, what gorgeous reflections and beautiful shots. Thank you for sharing these with our Green Challenge.
