Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
I went to Soos Creek Botanical Garden looking for yellow and was greeted by giant sunflowers and bees of all persuasions.

I walked the paths inside the garden and found more yellow flowers

some fragrant,

some enhanced by touches of red in the background.

The secret to gardening is planting flowers and shrubs with complementary colors.

Both yellow and burgundy look better for being near one another.

Even the butterflies complemented the purple flowers they drank from.
Look closely and see them using their built-in straw, their proboscis.

And that will do for this week’s Sunday Stills Challenge, Yellow.

Wow, Soos Garden has so many beautiful flowers, Susanne! You are right about the complimentary colors. Purple is yellow’s complimentary color as you deftly show stunning images of the yellow butterflies on the purple flowers. Such extraordinary detail to be able to see the butterfly’s proboscis!
Thanks, Terri! π I love visiting Soos Creek Garden, especially when I need inspiration. They do the complementary colors so beautifully and make it look easy! And I loved watching the butterfly. I don’t remember capturing the proboscis before, but maybe I just didn’t recognize it!
Wonderful close ups! I especially like the Coreopsis with the bee in the center!!
Thanks so much! I like that one too! Thanks for identifying the flower. π
Love all the bees and butterflies and the flowers are beautiful. This is a garden I hadn’t heard of before.
Thanks, Graham. It’s in Auburn about 30 minutes south of where I live.

I had the pleasure of watching a butterfly as close up as your wonderful photo. I was eating lunch and out the window next to me a butterfly was preening. I couldn’t believe what I was watching. I love that you caught one so well.
Aren’t they fun to watch? I was happy this one stayed around a while and let me get pictures. π
What wonderful displays of yellow!!
Thank you so much! π
