Musings on cats, travel, gardens and life
I’ve been reading lately how important it is to play with your pets, so when Benji climbed into my inbox this morning and tried to empty its contents – perhaps to get my attention – I thought a bit of play was in order.

I pulled out the tape and dangly toys hoping to get him to leave the ground as in days gone by.

But today he was content to bat things around while in repose. Perhaps at the age of 7, a mature middle-aged cat, he’s finally slowing down.

Nothing wrong with that, I understand it myself.

And then there’s Tiger, whose playing days are mostly over. At 15, a full-fledged senior cat with all the attendant issues, he’s happy to rest most of the time.
This week there was another cancelled trip to the vet.
We thought we’d worked out a system but when the box appeared, he hid under the bed and remained there till the coast was clear.
“Sorry, Sue. I’m afraid of the box. And the car. And the vet.”

“I understand, Tiger. I feel the same way about the dentist but I know it’s good for me so I go anyway. We’ll have to work something out.”
And so the vet will give me a happy pill before the next attempt, making it less traumatic for both of us. After all, it works for me at the dentist.

Benji is a beautiful cat! β€οΈ
Thanks so much, John. I love his beautiful fur and it’s so soft. π π
You’re welcome! Benji sounds like a very healthy, happy cat. β€οΈ
Yes, indeed!
Aww! Benji’s so cute! And so is Tiger. Foster just turned 7 too. August 2nd is his “gotcha day”!π₯°
Wow, we brought Benji home from Seattle Humane, 7 years ago on Aug 26th!!
Awwπ₯°π»
Love and purrs to your boys !
Thank you! π»π»
So much personality. They’re both gorgeous. Hugs from me and purrs from ginger tabby sisters Velma and Daphne.
Thanks so much! Always fun to connect with purrs between kitties! π»π»
My cats loved the vet’s office. Probably because I worked there and they often came with me – lots of treats and permission to lounge at the reception desk!!
That’s the first time I heard of any cats liking the vet’s office! Familiarity and having mom nearby plus lots of treats makes all the difference!
Sushi also just wants to rest most of the time-(or get a massage and brushing)- I try to play with her but she usually isnβt interested. But she loves to lay on the front or back porch and watch the squirrels and birds and kids playing
Sounds exactly like my Tiger!
π₯° Sushi is 10 years old The best I can tell- Thereβs only one vet record from the person who gave her to me- and if that record is accurate sheβs 10- (not sure though)β¦
Sometimes the vet can estimate the actual age. Tiger was 5 when we got him 10 years ago so is definitely in his senior years. Benji was 6 months or so when we got him 7 years ago, and he’s finally slowing down a little, but not much. π π
Twilightβs turning 7 tomorrow- and she still is just as playful and active as she was when we adopted her as a kitten! π»
Ollie still wants to pay with his stuffed toys in the evenings. He usually picks a time when we have just eaten dinner and want to relax. But I play with him anyway, because I know it makes him happy and feel bonded. These days, 10 minutes is all he can manage.
Best wishes, Pete.
Aw. π Nice for you to accommodate his play schedule. I should probably try a little harder with Tiger, but he’s never been much for playing, But I have been spending more time grooming him which he loves.
Our new puppy thinks she is a cat and insists on sitting on or near me much of the time. I don’t know what she would make of an actual cat since she has yet to encounter one. Of course I always love seeing pictures of your boys.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying your new puppy. π And I’m always happy to share pictures of my boys.
