Guess who Dropped by the Lake Today? Think Seafair!
You guessed it! It’s Seafair weekend and the Blue Angels are in town. I caught them practicing yesterday over Lake Washington.
Seafair was a backdrop to the Seattle summers of my youth. I remember lining up on 4th avenue in downtown Seattle where my mom worked, to watch the Seafair Parade. It used to be easy to go to when Seattle was still a small town. Today, I don’t care for the traffic and the crowds, but I still love watching the acrobatics in the sky.
The hydroplane races were the finale and I remember them in the background on TV, but never paid much attention to them, unlike my husband who watched them live at the lake. In fact, one year, he was the only casualty, and you can read that story here – It Happened at Seafair.

I’ve yet to see the Blue Angels in person – my sister lives in Pensacola Beach and want us to come for the Blue Angels weekend but so far we haven’t been able to make it!
Interesting! They’ve come to Seattle for Seafair every year as long as I can remember (except perhaps during the worst of the covid era.) I’m happy they practice nearby and I can watch them easily without any crowds.

Thanks for sharing these 🙂 I barely remember seeing them fly the F11’s ✈️ in 1963 when I was at Seafair, however I do remember seeing Ms. Bardahl on Lake Washington 🚤

We have similar air shows happening on the coast around England. But they wil be less popular this summer as we have so much heavy rain and it’s only 13C this morning. 😦

Sorry about your bum weather! We’ve had the best weather this summer unlike the rest of the country. And even though we had some clouds roll in overnight the show will go on.😊
