The Beauty of the Great Outdoors – How I Survived 2020

Remember 2020 and lockdowns, quarantine and social distancing? What were we to do to keep our sanity?

Thank goodness for the Great Outdoors!

For this week’s Sunday Stills Challenge, celebrating the Great Outdoors month of June, I perused my photos from 2020, surprised at all the places we went, remembering how we coped that first confusing year of Covid.

There were many walks in the woods,

day trips

various forms of nature therapy,

and sunsets over the Pacific.

All within my home state of Washington.

It worked.

  1. Wow, Washington State is so beautiful! You have a great place to escape reality and viruses. ❤️😊

  2. It also helps to have a good quarantine partner. As I recall, you had/have a good one! Me, too. 😉

  3. The insect on the yellow flower is incredible. Almost doesn’t look real! (Don’t worry, I know that it is!)

  4. Yes, you were lucky to have the ability to get out, away from people, at a time of great uncertainty indeed…gorgeous photos!

    • Thank you so much, John. Looking back and finding so many nature photos during that time, reminded me what a solace we found outdoors.

  5. All that glorious green in these images, so restful and rich to the eye. Our state is quite wonderful for its outdoors and you easily capture nature’s essence so well, Susanne! Rain on the way, which we still need. Nature therapy is always a happy medicine to take!

    • Thanks so much, Terri! We are definitely the Evergreen State! I heard there’s an atmospheric river on the way, so I guess I won’t plan any outdoor activities at least for a few days. 🌧🌧

  6. It was such a good thing to be able to get outdoors during Covid shutdowns. I can’t imagine how people in cities survived.

  7. You are blessed with so many great outdoor spaces in WA and you always capture them so beautifully. This post could be a fabulous advert for the state!

  8. I also survived lockdown by walking with Ollie in the countryside. Although my local scenery is not as dramatic as yours, it enabled me to keep calm during the whole pandemic.

    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Thanks, Pete. Just getting outside for a walk and fresh air is therapeutic, dramatic scenery or not. The countryside around your home looks lovely.

  9. I knew I recognized a few of those places (mountains). I had such a hard time with people saying to avoid hiking, or certain outside activities in 2020…outside is where we should be! Stunning photos.
