“Good morning, Benji. Just wanted to thank you for your cooperation.”
“Who, me? What for, Sue?”
“I think you know, Benj, but I’ll spell it out for you anyway. For using the new post.”
“Oh, that? Not to worry, Sue. My middle name is cooperation.”
“Hmmm. Not so sure about that. I think it had more to do with the catnip.”
“It’s a start, but I’d like you to use it without that. I can’t have you turning into a junkie.”
“Don’t worry about it, Sue. You can trust me.”
“I hope so Benji. But let’s keep working on it. In the meantime, you may still use the chair for sleeping, just not scratching, okay Benji?”

Thanks, John. He certainly did use it after I sprayed it with catnip so there is some hope! 🙂
I didn’t know you could buy a spray-on can of catnip. The stuff grew wild around the edges of my yard back in Michigan.
The spray seems to work pretty well for attracting Benji to the new post. I think the natural plant for outside is better; I grow catmint which does the same thing.

A good scratching post is a treasure! Far too many people give up and resort to declawing….
I would never declaw.. I’d choose to sacrifice my chair before doing that. But I can see how you might be driven to it!
Working in vet practices, we often had people bring in cats and kittens wanting them declawed. We generally tried to get them to give the scratching post a try and even applying the little silicone tips to the nails. But some people were insistent….

Glad to see Benji is enjoying his new post! Foster likes the catnip spray too but lately I haven’t been able to find it in stores. But he also likes regular catnip too. I only let him play with it every few days but I don’t think it’s addicting🤔
I sprayed the post a lot the first day and that’s when he used it. I hope he gets the message and uses it even if I don’t. We’ll see! 😺
