Rainy Days and Cats and Mondays

It’s a rainy day in the Pacific Northwest and the cats are getting restless. The humans are too.

Benji is out of sorts, and I do what I can to cheer him up, pulling out his favorite toys,

until we’re both too tired to continue.

“Can’t you make it stop?” he pleads.

“Sorry, Benji. I wish I could. But we should get a reprieve by next April. May, for sure.”

“Until then, we’ll have to hunker down inside.”

And so today, we will.

  1. I suppose they are much happier than if they had to sit in the rain. But that’s how cats are- never can decide if they want out or to stay in!

    • Benji gets antsy when he wants to go out and it’s pouring rain! So I usually have to pay more attention to him, at least in the mornings or he gets a bit crazy!

  2. Ollie has been slowed down by the bad weather, and he is sleeping the days away after his walk. Perhaps pets get the winter blues, just as we do?
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • I think that’s true, Pete. Benji, gets all wound up inside when he realizes the weather is so poor. To go out would be miserable, and to stay inside seems worse.

  3. Oh dear, I know how you all feel as it’s pretty miserable here too at the moment. Hunkering down is definitely the way to go!

  4. We have had an unusual amount of rain and cloudy days here too. And Zoe has decided she will not go outside if it’s raining. Even if we carry her out and set her down she is uninterested in doing her business until she is back in the warm and dry house. Maybe she needs a litter box!

    • Smart Zoe. 😊 They’re calling it an atmospheric river and I hope it passes overhead soon. Tiger won’t go out at all, but Benji insists and comes back in soaking wet. Litter boxes help, for sure. 😺

      • I love the dramatic names they have come up with. Atmospheric weather and apocalyptic snow or heat or whatever. Very wet, deep snow, very hot used to work just fine to describe the weather!

  5. I was just in the Pacific Northwest with my daughters! We stayed near Lake Owega and we experienced a lot of rain. It was beautiful and despite the weather we had a fabulous time. Hugs, C

    • How wonderful! We are now experiencing an ‘atmospheric river,’ so we’ve been pretty soggy lately. But still hard to beat the PNW for beauty.

  6. What gorgeous cats! Mine is very odd and he loves going out in the rain. As soon as he hears thunder or a heavy shower, he’s off. (I know. It’s not normal!)

    • Thank you! Benji goes out in the rain but rather reluctantly, though not if there’s thunder. He hates being cooped up in the house.
