Breakfast with a View at Kalaloch

I just returned from a few days of camping in Olympic National Park.   It will take me a while to sort through the pictures of our adventures at Mora, Rialto Beach, Third Beach and the Hoh River Rainforest.  Stay tuned for those to come.  In the meantime, I thought I’d whet your appetite with pictures from the end of our trip,  where we stopped for breakfast at Kalaloch Lodge, before heading back home.

The breakfast and views were incredible.

  1. My good memories of Olympic National Park are colored by our trip home. My mother was riding the brakes coming down(probably in 1960) and they gave out. She yelled at us to hit the floor of the station wagon(no seat belts then) as she turned the car off the road and down a hill. We were all fine. We certainly learned never to ride the brakes though I suppose that wouldn’t happen today.

    • Too bad to have such a gorgeous place colored by a bad childhood memory. I’ve been to the national park many times and (thankfully) have only good memories. But I do remember those days of riding loose in cars before there were seat belts. There were so many accidents; fortunately I was never involved in one.

  2. Looks like a great spot for a camping trip, Susanne. Glad to hear you are making good use of your new min-caravan.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Kalaloch is wonderful as is the entire national park! We camped at Mora a bit further north and the Hot River. Both were spectacular! Thanks for your comment. 🙂

  3. Ahhh the weather looks so nice there! (Here we have reached 30 straight days of triple digits!😬) Looks like a fun place to go!

    • Yes! It’s been hotter than normal in the Seattle area – but nowhere near what you are experiencing! So it was nice to be on the coast for a few days where it was much cooler and refreshing!

  4. I haven’t been out to Kalaloch since I took a trip around the penninsula in the early ’90s, but I still vividly recall how beautiful it was. I camped at the campground and on my way home stopped in at the resort there and fantasized about renting one of the cabins and eating at the restaurant some day. I never did, but maybe some day!

    • It’s well worth another trip! The cabins are a bit pricey at Kalaloch – we stayed there some years ago – but we love to camp and the restaurant was great. And there are so many nice campgrounds in the park. We stayed at Mora near Rialto Beach and at the Hoh River Rainforest, both gorgeous! More to come on that. Thanks for your comment! 😊
